Creation: Day 3

We had so much fun remembering what God created on the third day.
Caleb played with the puzzles that we had made last year.

To make these puzzles, what I did was print some different pictures of flowers or plants. Then I glued them to a carton, taped them with packing tape and cut them out.
It’s a simple and practical way to make puzzles for your kids. What kids don’t love to play with puzzles?

We continued with our Creation book, and this time we used construction paper, glue, popsicle sticks, mosquito netting, and a little bit of sand.

The first thing that Caleb did was make the “river” with blue finger paint.

Then he glued on the “land.”

We made the trees with some popsicle sticks

And the mosquito netting

We also used flower stickers (we had to use liquid silicone to make the stickers stay on top of the sand)

We used “Do-a-Dot” markers for the first time

It was really fun

He put the broccoli and tomatoes in order based on size

 Using colored pom-poms

He also matched the similar flowers

We really had a lot of fun doing each of these activities. I think the most important thing is that Caleb has fun while learning God’s Word.

We have already learned about the first three days of creation and I’m dying to learn the rest.

A few other things that we’ve done and we can do:

1- Go out and gather plants and flowers. You can put the flowers in a notebook or simply put them in a tupperware container or bag. The idea is to use the flowers and plants as a way to talk about how God created fruits and plants on the third day.
2- You can also go for a little trip to the river or beach (we went to the river).
 3- Make a fruit salad.

Creation: Day 2

Today we learned about the second day of creation.
We went over our visuals from last year

We continued working on our “Little Creation Book.”

On a page of construction paper, I drew the clouds and the ocean. Caleb used finger paints to paint the ocean (he had so much fun doing it)

We used cotton to make clouds

And we glued them on.

That night we reviewed the story with our “scene”.

Something that we did before: We went out to play in the rain, something that Caleb loves, and while we played, we talked about how the rain comes from the clouds and that God created the clouds on the second day

Creation Day 1

We started with homeschool this week! After some vacation time, Caleb and I are so excited to start homeschool again!

Because it has been a long time since our last classes, I decided to take a couple of weeks to do a review. This week will look at the first four days of creation, some colors and shapes.

Yesterday (Monday) we reviewed the first day of creation.

One of the things that I put more emphasis on is the Word of God and the truth. It is so exciting seeing him learn

To review the first day of creation, we saw some visuals of the day and night.

We also did some activities because we learn more with the things we do.

We used three sheets of construction paper and glue

Caleb had fun breaking the black and yellow construction paper with his fingers.

Then he glued on the white sheet. This activity also helps develop fine motor skills and is very fun.

Another little thing I did was print different pictures and then play "Place on the sun or the moon"

First we painted a sun and a moon on the floor of my house.

Then he had to put the picture on the sun, if it is something you do during the day, or the moon, if it's something he does at night. So you can identify the difference between things that are done during the day and those done at night.

I tried to have pictures of the things he does daily.

Note: Some things we did last year

1. We sat on the bed and turn off our light (at nighttime) and I began to tell how in the beginning everything was dark, then lit the lantern and speak of light, then switch on the light in the room. We played for a while turning on and turning off the light (as we talked about the day and night)

2. Throughout the day we looked out the window and repeated "day", then at night we went out and showed it was "night".

How are Caleb’s classes going?

It has been a few weeks since I started classes with Caleb, and I truly have had a wonderful time with it. I love watching how my little boy enjoys his classes, and it excites me to see him learn something new each time.

Caleb is a very technologically-savvy boy, and he has learned a lot by playing games on the iPad. So, I’m focusing more on his Bible classes, and then I review with him what he already knows. I also have to remember that he’s only two years old, so I don’t want to “pressure” him to learn things. Basically, we do fun things, and he learns as he plays.

We have learned some shapes and colors; some he’s learned in English, and others in Spanish. For example, he says “circulo” (circle in Spanish), and “triangle” (in English). I think that is fine for right now, don’t you think? We are also learning about the days of Creation; right now we’re on Day 6.

Homeschool

Last week I started Homeschool with my little Caleb. He is 2 years old, so he doesn’t have very “extensive” classes, but they are little things that we do every day with the goal of introducing, reviewing, and learning new things. A friend of mine recommended a few Internet sites to me that have a curriculum for 2-year-olds. At first it seemed a little strange to me that there was a “2-year-old curriculum,” but I really loved the idea, since it helps to organize everything that you want to teach your children.
I have decided to use  http://www.abcjesuslovesme.com/ as a guide and I am super excited. It has a a lot of good ideas and the best part is that it is based on the Bible (even though I don’t have all the required materials, I try to do the best that I can). The webpage is in English so I am adapting and translating the material for now. I’m also using a lot of ideas from other websites. I’m subscribed to so many different websites!
One of the other things that I’ve considered is little Caleb’s personality. Everyone that knows my son knows that he is very energetic and is always jumping off the walls. So, I don’t want to “make him” stay in a seat for hours, because he will get bored and won’t enjoy the things that he is going to learn. So what I decided to do is write down on a sheet of paper all the things that he is going to learn that week, and then I teach him a little bit each day. The “classes” don’t even last 10 minutes, but Caleb really pays attention and is happy to learn.

I am so excited, and I enjoy every moment teaching my son. I know without a doubt that God has given me the gifts and talents to teach children (which I really enjoy), so how can I not teach my own children, right? Well, I have embarked on this beautiful journey called “Homeschool,” and I love it.
